ICE – In Case of Emergency

A couple of sobering stories
There was an incident this week involving one of the other teams here. I work with a number of people from this team and went off to a meeting during the week to find them very casually dressed for work. They live in a twin tower block in the middle of town. A fire broke out in the basement of one of the blocks and so the buildings needed to be evacuated. We’re talking 30 odd people from this team living in one of these blocks. So they are bundled out in the early morning with nothing but what they could grab. This was a serious fire. The fireman had to smash the windows of their cars and move them away from the flames. A young nepalise man living in the other block,, having only been here for a week jumped from a fifth story window to his death in an attempt to flee the fire.
The day before one of the leaders from another team had strange sounds coming from a fuse board in his building so went down and turned a switch off. Later in the night it exploded into flames. He was then arrested and is to be prosecuted for not informing someone of the situation. If the charges stick he will be deported.
